Bob Lytle - The Last Checkered Flag

I just received word that Bob Lytle has taken his Last Checkered Flag. Bob fought a long fight with cancer and now he’s finally at peace.

‘Cottonwood’ Bob (aka ‘Spur Gear’) was a larger than life personality and he served as the Allard Register and was a fixture on the west coast vintage racing circuit in his Black #65 Allard J2X.

Bob requested that no memorial service be held…but please feel free to leave a comment below with your remembrances of Bob. A more fitting obituary will follow…

Bob was a good friend and I will miss him.

All the best,
Colin Warnes

Moustaches Fighting Cancer

This just in…Gavin Allard, grandson of Sydney is growing a moustache this year for Movember. What is Movember you ask? Movember (www.Movember.com) is the new name for November, which has been renamed in honor of the brave men throughout the world growing moustaches to fight prostate cancer. The cause is especially important to Gavin since it was cancer that took Sydney. If all goes well, Gavin’s ‘stache will look like the artists impression shown on the right by the end of Movember.

Thanks in advance for your support!

(Gavin also serves as the Historian for the Allard Motor Company, click here to email him)

Yvonne Turner (1930 - 2009)

We recently learned of the January 13 passing of Yvonne Turner in Grafton, WI shortly after her 79th birthday. Among her many accomplishments, Yvonne – together with her husband, Dr. Tom Turner – played a key role in promoting the Allard marque during the 1980’s and 90’s.

We first met them at the 1989 Monterey Historics, and we were immediately impressed with their charm and enthusiasm, both for the Allard marque, and life in general. Little did we know that, in addition to Tom racing his flathead Ford J2 “8-Ball” (used with Fred Wacker’s personal blessings), Tom and Yvonne were laying the groundwork for Allard being the featured marque for the 1990 Monterey Historic Auto Races.

The Last Checkered Flag - George Meyers

As you may have heard, George Meyers (standing next his son John) died on April 21, 2009. He had suffered from Parkinson’s for a few years but he had a melanoma on his face that “got away” and went into the sinus and brain.
