Allard Replacement Steel Wheels

Special thanks to Andy Picariello of the AOC for digging up an affordable replacement for Allard steel wheels. The “Gennie” style 2-piece steel wheels measure 16” x 4.5” wide and feature a 5 x 5.5” bolt circle with 2.25” back spacing (2.75" to the back of the rim). I did some digging and found that the wheels are made by Wheel Vintiques, which as it turns out are made right here in Fresno, CA! I stopped by their shop the other day and talked with Hector Moreno. Hector informed me that they sell direct and he will sell us primered wheels for $120/ea + shipping. To order, contact Hector at 559-251-6957 or email at hector@wheelvintiques.com and use part number 14-64255234. Wheel Vintiques will ship anywhere in the world.

Please note the inside diameter will need to be increased to 3-13/16" (approximately 3/8") and studs must be added to mount the original Allard hub caps. We are working on a plan to supply wheels with these modifications, but nothing has been finalized yet. In the meantime, your local machine shop should be able to make these changes for you. Thanks to David Hooper for the drawing below. Click here or the image below to download the pdf

The hub portion of the wheels are made from 7 gage steel (.175"), which is thicker than the original Allard wheels (low cost racing wheels?). They can also be balanced, whereas the original wheels could not.

PS: We are also looking into making custom Allard hub caps that can be mounted to these Gennie wheels with no studs. In the meantime, you can order their #2005 ’40 Standard Baby Moon hub cap if you don’t want to add mounting studs for traditional Allard hub caps.

80 Years of the Flathead

I know we’re a tad late celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Ford Flathead (March 8, 1932), but I couldn’t pass up a chance to pay tribute to the engine that made Allards what they are. When most people think of Allards, they think of the “Cad-Allards” that were so dominant in the early 50’s. However, it was the Flathead that started the legend.

Amelia Island Auction Preview

Sorry for the late start on this, but both RM and Goodings will feature one Allard each at their auctions. As usual, please click on the links or photos below to visit the auction page for each car.

RM: Allard K2, chassis #2029
Our records indicate the car was originally intended to go to Holland, however at some point this was changed and it ended up going to R/P Motors in NYC on June 7, 1951. The original colors were intended to be blue with red interior, however this too was changed during the order process to bronze. This car was also ordered with the DeDion rear suspension (FACT: if you wanted a K2 with wire wheels, you could only get them if you ordered the DeDion option!). This car also features fender mounted spare wheels. Of the 117 K2's built, only a handfull came equipped with the DeDion/wire wheels setup and the fender mounted spares. The  car features a 331 Cadillac with a 3-speed transmission. This car is Lot #149 at RM and will be sold on Saturday March 10. The estimate is $100,000 - $125,000.

Goodings: Allard K3, chassis #3189
Our records indicate this K3 was ordered on October 24, 1952, through the Allard Motor Company of New York City. It was ordered Chrysler modifications and painted silver with green leather upholstery and a fawn-colored top. The car was delivered to Leonard D. Henry of New York City on March 18, 1953. The car features a 331 Hemi with dual carbs and a 4-speed transmission. This car is lot #8 and will be sold on Friday March 9. The estimate is $150,000 - $180,000.

Also of note, RM: 1958 AC Aceca Coupe
One of our members will be selling his AC Aceca coupe to possibly fund the aquisition of another Allard. Please help him fund his addition by considering the purchase of this unique AC. This car is lot #148 at RM and the estimate is $95,000 to $115,000.

News from the show circuit...

Hi - our Allard was awarded a big prize at the Boca Raton Concours in Boca Raton FL yesterday: the 'Spirit of the Road' trophy. It was a judges' award for the car that they most liked to take 'on the road'! See attached photos. This was a big prize as it could have been awarded to any car on the field of about 200 or so cars. Next, on to the Amelia Island Concours on March 10 and 11.
